Skate Albany Program

We are the first nonprofit that implements mental, emotional, social, and physical support to people of all ages through skateboarding in NYS!

The Skate Albany program promotes empowerment, life skills, and building upon one’s sense of belonging and self-esteem. Our target audience are the people who show up! We provide individuals and families activities strategically and intentionally designed to bring about impact in their holistic well-being through the beauty of skateboarding.

Last Skate Albany Meet-up will be held Saturday Mat 4th 12-3pm located at our community center’s indoor skatepark!

This program serves multiple purposes:

  1. To increase participants' self-esteem, social connections, increase skill sets, goal-setting and abilities.

  2. Participants have an opportunity to learn how to skateboard through lessons, skate camps and monthly meet-ups from our diverse, supportive, inclusive staff.

  3. Participants have the abilities to break down the barriers of self-doubt through their experience skateboarding. For example, often at the beginning of a skateboarding lesson, community members begin with an "I can't do it" attitude. By the end of the lesson, the student has learned this skill and is overwhelmed with emotions, smiling, laughing, and sometimes even cry with joy.

  4. Participants have accessibility local resources for their holistic health at all of our meet-ups and lessons.

Safety Risk Note: No matter how careful the participants and the instructors are, no matter what safety equipment is used and worn, and what precautions are taken, there is an inherent risk that cannot be eliminated. The risk of injury includes minor injuries such as bruises, scrapes, and more serious injuries such as broken bones, dislocations, sprains, and catastrophic injuries such as permanent paralysis or even death due to falls on the back, neck, or head. NWR strongly recommends all participants to wear protective gear when skateboarding during our events, lessons, meet-ups, and at all other times.
