How NWR started…

NWR was founded by first generation Albanian/Montenegrin American, Tatiana (Gjergji) Benack, in spring of 2017. Tatiana has created an empowering organization and intergenerational community center for all to access what they need to support their mental, emotional, and social wellbeing. Throughout history, mental and emotional health were secondary to physical health and as a result, many individuals and families faced challenges because of such debilitating stigmas. This adversity fueled Tatiana’s motivation to better support her community’s holistic wellness. Growing up, Tatiana listened to her family stories of their struggles truly activated a call to action for her to start an organization to help others. Tatiana’s family members came to America in the 1960s as refugees of Kosovo, since their land was taken from them during the communist regime. Faced with such challenges, Tatiana’s father would mention, “I have lived in survival mode ever since I was a child and ever since I came to America, I was given the chance to eventually become privileged enough to be given options and opportunities. This is what Tatiana wants to share with her community, giving them opportunities and resources so families and individuals know what their options are to grow and strive to reach their highest potential.
